Building a surfboard on my own |
Investigating:How, where, who?In this phase of the PP I had to research how to build a surfboard, what materials, places and safety measures.
I have gathered all the materials online following instructions from a local shaper from recco who helped me along the way, acting as a mentor for my project. |
planningDesigning my surfboardI had to organize the information from the researc to decide the characteristics of my surfboard. Everything of the surfboard reacts with the water and changing the shape would affect how it surfs. I therefore designed my surfboard, shape, curvature, thickness and aesthetics.

Taknig actionConstructionWhen materials arrived at home I started working on my terrace. I shaped the foam with sanpaper and other snading tools that helped me on my way.
This was not an easy step as I had to take extreme care of each stroke to make sure I wouldn't ruin the board.
I worked on the outline first and the curves and thickness later. The design of the surfboard required shapes that followed the flow of the water, under and on the sides of the board. |
Finally in the waterSurfing my board after a lot of workI have had a lot of fun this day, I went out with my friends, made photoes and videos of me surfing.
At this point of the project I felt very reliefed as the tought and long part had passed and was really happy with the outcome. Even though the personal project can be very stressful, it gives a lot of satifaction and you can learn a lot from it. |
